Sidelines

The Maui Invitational Basketball Tournament announced its 1997 bracket featuring the national champion Arizona Wildcats, NCAA runner-up Kentucky and Duke for the Nov. 24-26 preseason tournament.

Arizona will open with Boston College at 5 p.m. Tucson time at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii. Other opening round pairings include Duke versus host Chaminade, Missouri against DePaul and Kentucky against GeorgeWashington. Arizona's opener will be televised on the ESPN2 network. The Kentucky and Duke games are televised as well.

If Arizona and Kentucky advance to the second round, it will be a rematch of last year's national championship game. With Arizona, Kentucky and Duke, the tournament will likely include three of the nation's top five teams once the pre-season rankings are released in November.

By the Numbers

222:

Number of consecutive games Sara Johnson, a senior defensive specialist for the UA volleyball team, played. Johnson's streak was snapped Saturday when she did not appear in the first game of the Wildcats' match against University of South Carolina. Although she did not appear in the first game, Johnson played in the second and third games as UA won the Carolina Classic in Columbia, S.C. She joins Barb Bell as one of two Wildcats who appeared in all 111 games last season.
