Gallagher should stay

To the editor,

So the Gallagher Theatre is to be sacrificed for the bright, shining new future Student Union (Catalyst, Sept. 3).

I find it truly fascinating that the main reason the Gallagher is going down is that it takes up too much room in the building, when the greatest waste of space in the area is the long-defunct Student Union pool. You know, that large unknown area by the Union back basement door that exists only too have cool murals painted on its walls.

Why can't an unused and empty pool - that most students don't even know exists in the first place - be sacrificed to the space-hungry Powers That Be instead of the last remaining place on campus where students can gather to have a low-cost good time?
