The Arizona baseball team's flight home from New Orleans wasn't that tough as Arizona salvaged its final game against Tulane (11-5).

The Wildcats (16-8), who had lost to the Green Wave 9-5 and 11-4, won 9-3 behind freshman pitcher Ben Diggins, who went the distance, striking out eight and walking one.

"The guys weren't down at all. They know they are a good team, but they just didn't play well," UA head coach Jerry Stitt said. "It is good to win that last one because it is a long plane ride home and the guys were feeling pretty good about themselves."

Juniors Mike Crawford and Josh Pearce have solidified the first and second spots in the starting rotation, but who will be the third starter is still undecided.

Diggins was originally the third starter, but after some rocky performances, junior Tony Milo took over.

Milo pitched well for a while, but after Arizona State scored six runs on eight hits in just 2 2/3 innings off him, Milo lost the job.

Freshman Brian Pemble stepped up in relief against ASU and was considered for the starting job before Stitt let Diggins have one more chance.

Diggins went out and pitched a complete game en route to his third victory.

So, the question remains, will Diggins be the starter or will it be Milo or Pemble?

"We are going to use the pitchers however we need to use them to get wins," Stitt said. "If Diggins has to close a game, we will let him. If Crawford has to throw some innings out of relief then he will. Whatever we got to do, we will do it."
