Donnell Harris, a senior center on the University of Arizona's men's basketball team, was arrested by university police early yesterday morning for two warrants - one stemming from a drug violation - after being stopped for a traffic offense on East Sixth Street near North Martin Avenue.

Police stopped Harris for "weaving" at 12:05 a.m., said Sgt. Gene Taitano, a university police spokes-man.

Taitano said Harris showed no signs of impairment and was cooperative during the traffic stop, but a check revealed warrants from the Casa Grande Department of Public Safety for speeding and possession of marijuana.

Taitano did not know the details concerning the warrants and referred those questions to the Casa Grande DPS.

Harris was taken to the Pima County Jail and later released by Pre-Trial Services, Taitano said.

The 6-foot-11-inch, 203-pound Harris, who was a reserve center for the Wildcats, will meet with coaches and athletic department officials today at noon to discuss the incident. Head coach Lute Olson is currently on vacation with his wife Bobbi, and will not attend the meeting.

"All the proper people have been notified," assistant coach Jim Rosborough said late last night, "but until after that (meeting), we can't really say anything."

Harris, from Salinas, Calif., averaged 3.3 points and 2.9 rebounds a game last year but missed 12 games because of a gall bladder infection and two more when he was suspended for missing a practice.

Harris enjoyed his best season two years ago, culminating with his most impressive game, an eight-point, seven-rebound performance as the Wildcats beat Kentucky in the NCAA Championship game.
