From staff reports

Despite having a season-high team score and its best overall team performance of the year, the UA gymnastics team could not overcome No. 3 Utah Friday night at McKale Center, the team's first home meet in three weeks.

Arizona lost 193.250 to 193.625. The Wildcats recorded season-high team scores in the vault (48.400), bars (48.575) and floor (49.150).

Two Arizona gymnasts fell on the beam. Entering the fourth and final rotation, Arizona trailed the Utes by almost two points, but came back to win the floor event 49.150-48.450. Utah competitors won the vault, bars and beam events.

Junior Heidi Hornbeek finished first on the vault with a 9.875. Freshman Randi Liljenquist tied for second place on the bars with a new personal-best score of 9.775.

Senior Kristin McDermott and junior Maureen Kealey tied for fourth place on the bars with a score of 9.750. Freshman Emily Peterman finished third on the beam with a score of 9.625.

McDermott finished in a tie for first place on the floor with a 9.900, and freshman Brooke Stan finished third with a 9.850. McDermott was Arizona's top all-around gymnast, finishing fourth with a 38.575.

Arizona fell to 4-3 overall, but kept its 2-1 Pacific 10 Conference record in tact. Having faced the Utes for 23 years, the Wildcats are 0-43 against Utah.
