Rugby gears up for Davis
If the UA rugby team can beat ASU next weekend, they will be heading to the national championships in Anapolis, Md. Before they can think about that game, though, they need to worry about the University of California at Davis tomorrow at Esteven Park in Tucson at 3 p.m. "We have never played UC Davis before," head coach Dave Sitton said. "They are a really quality side." Sitton is excited to play a team that they have a lot in common with so he can know what to work on for the National Championships. "Since our game versus University of California Berkely was cancelled last weekend we have yet to play a team that is similar in quality to us," Sitton said. Unfortunately for the Wildcats this weekend they will be without five starters. Senior Chris Kron will miss the remainder of the regular season due to tournament play for the U.S. National team in Asia. Seniors Rodd Penney (hamstring), Josh Allen (ankle), James Kai (shoulder), and junior Mike Bennett (toe) will all miss the game. "There is no individual that needs to step-up," sophomore lock Jimmy Schuster said. "Everyone needs to step-up and raise their level of play." In practice, the Wildcats (8-4 overall, 6-1 in the SoCal Conference) have been working a lot on the basic fundamentals because Sitton feels they been moving away from the basics.
