Livengood tells Board of Regents athletic budget looking 'pretty good'

UA athletic director Jim Livengood told the Arizona Board of Regents yesterday he projects the athletics department to have a surplus of more than $1 million at the end of the year.

Athletic directors from the UA, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University presented reports on their financial status as well as how their student-athletes are faring to the regents yesterday. [Read article]

Men's Hoops: Wildcats shoot down Wright State

Cats head to N.Y. next week for NIT semifinals

Salim Stoudamire scored 17 of his 24 points in the first half to lead the Wildcats to an 83-66 win over Wright State in the second round of the Preseason NIT last night in McKale Center.

The Wildcats (2-0) extended their lead to as much as 33 points with 14:22 remaining in the second half, but the Raiders (1-1) cut the lead to 15 by the 7-minute mark.

The Raiders were able to get back in the game on the shooting of Zakee Boyd, who scored 14 points in that stretch, including four consecutive 3-pointers to make the score 65-50. [Read article]

Make SafeRide safer, please

Students at the UA have been using the SafeRide service provided by ASUA since 1994, and it's been a prosperous venture that has helped many students. Although SafeRide is one awesome little advantage for UA students, there are many more features that can be altered or added that would make SafeRide a lot safer.

Numerous times have I heard from friends or fellow colleagues that they have almost been run over by SafeRide cars (which is rather ironic), been rejected for a pick up or that the drivers just aren't very pleasurable. [Read article]

Che Guevara. Patrick Henry. Spartacus. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. There is a connection. Sort of. This weekend, the University of Arizona Opera Theater will present the fully staged Mozart masterpiece "Le Nozze di Figaro" ("The Marriage of Figaro"). The opera was first performed in Vienna on May 1, 1786.

The opera was based on a play by Pierre Beaumarchais, which was written before the French Revolution and banned in Paris for its revolutionary ideas. "Le Nozze di Figaro" follows the adventures of a comical servant, Figaro, as he outwits and traps an aristocratic count who wants his woman.  [ Read article]
