AIDS funding falls short

Students protest lack of worldwide AIDS education funding

Vital funding for the Global AIDS Fund will not meet its expected goal due to budget constraints of other countries that could not match the $550 million the United States pledged.

UA students from the Student Global AIDS Campaign are upset with Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz., for not delivering the full amount after he promised to secure the funds.

The Global AIDS Fund, an organization that also helps fight tuberculosis and malaria, supports programs to combat AIDS in 128 countries. [Read article]

Strong second-half spurs Wildcats to blowout win

For the first few weeks of the young season, UA men's head basketball coach Lute Olson has stressed the importance of a strong second half.

The Wildcats had been outscored in the second halves of all but one of their first five games and it wasn't until last night that Arizona finally executed Olson's message, using a 20-6 run to open the second half and rout Wyoming 98-70 in McKale Center. [Read article]

Government needs consistency in targeting false advertising

Over the past decades, the government has told companies to whom, what and how they can advertise.

It does this, it claims, in order to protect the consumer, to protect the children, to protect society. Although I am wary of government claims of protection and would rather see individuals make choices regarding their risks, this concept can only go so far. [Read article]
