One would think that most hockey players learn their moves from Wayne Gretzky, but Icecat forward Brian Consolino showed on Saturday that he learned his from Tyus Edney.

Trailing 4-3 with seven minutes remaining in a game with No. 9 Arizona State, Consolino took the puck in his own zone, skated the length of the ice untouched and ripped a shot past Ice Devil goalie Russ Steinberg, helping the Icecats earn a 4-4 tie. The play was reminiscent of Edney's last-second coast-to-coast lay-up against Missouri to give the Bruins the win in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament.

The game was the final of the regular season for both teams, but the two teams could face each other again in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Championship tournament in Athens, Ohio.

"We showed a lot of character coming back from down 0-2 and 4-2," Icecat head coach Leo Golembiewski said.

The Ice Devils, 4-1 losers to the third-ranked Icecats (22-6-1) on Friday night, came out on Saturday determined to beat the Icecats for the second time in three meetings. Goals by center Steve Hammett and left-winger Jed Snyder made the score 2-0 at the 11:51 mark of in the first period.

"Tonight we showed the kind of intangibles that we're going to need on Wednesday," Golembiewski said.
