The UA Laxcats will face their toughest challenge to date when they travel to play No. 1 California Friday night at 7:00 and No. 6 Sonoma State Sunday afternoon at 1:00.

Head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said the team will have to play as good as possible in order to come home with a victory.

"We have to do all the little things like getting back on defense, for example," Felton said.

For Friday's game, senior attackman Dan Price will need to have the offense ready, as Cal returns last year's goalie Robby Warner. Felton said he believes Warner is one of the best goalies Arizona will face this year.

Felton said the Laxcats' defense also needs to step up and take charge.

"I watched a tape of the Bears playing against Sonoma State and both teams were shooting from all over the field," Felton said.

Cal beat Sonoma State 15-14 earlier this year in an overtime shoot-out. The Laxcats will regain the services of their defensive leader Jeff Cady, whose playing time has been limited by a hamstring injury. Senior Phil Guiliano, junior Laurance Bass and sophomore Tom Christian will all contribute on the defensive end. Freshman goalie Jesse Carlaftes is gaining experience with each game, and is looking to turn in a strong effort against two very powerful offensive teams. In Sonoma State's three games they have scored 22, 20 and 23 goals, while only giving up 4, 6 and 5 goals after the game against Cal.

"The team needs to be excited about this challenge," Felton said. "I feel good about coming into the games as an underdog." - Chris Reimer
