UA senior first baseman Ernie Durazo was named the Pacific 10 Conference Player of the Week yesterday, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen said.
Durazo, who leads the Wildcats in batting average (.388), slugging percentage (.628), RBIs (39), runs scored (31) and total bases (81), had a career week at the plate in Arizona's four games.
In the weekend series against Southern Utah, Durazo went 10 for 15 at the plate - good for a .667 average - and recorded his fourth and fifth home runs of the season.
Durazo smashed his fifth homer Saturday en route to a 7-2 Wildcat victory.
The Tucson native also drove in a team-high nine runs and scored seven times in the four-game span.
Last Friday against Southern Utah, Durazo went 5 for 5 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Durazo's hitting showcase was the first five-hit performance for the Wildcats this season.
Both the five hits and five RBIs were single-game career highs.
Durazo's 28-game hitting streak, which ended earlier this month during a series against UCLA, earned him a spot atop the UA record books, tied with Jack Daugherty.
During his streak, Durazo had 42 hits in 117 at bats, a .359 average.
The Wildcats play Friday when they battle conference opponent USC, who is led by Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, Mark Prior.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Sancet Field.
