If you go to San Antonio

By Ryan Finley

QUICK FACTS: The cultural heart of San Antonio is the Riverwalk, home of tourist-friendly shopping and eateries. Just blocks from the Alamo, the Convention Center and the Alamodome, most UA alumni will be headquartered near the water, on the Riverwalk. There are nearly 6,600 UA alumni in the state of Texas and 1,000 in San Antonio alone.

WHERE TO EAT: There is food for every taste in San Antonio, specifically if you're adventurous and don't mind waiting more than an hour to get a table. Places such as "The Strip" in North St. Mary's also offer live music with your food. Overall, San Antonio offers food and sights for everyone, from the tropical atmosphere of the Riverwalk to the barbecue and steak standards of the South Bank.

WHAT TO SEE: When in San Antonio, there is one place to see - the Alamo. One of the city's most recognizable sights, the fort where 188 Texan soldiers - including Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett - died at the hands of Mexico's Santa Anna is the main tourist attraction in the city.

The Alamo is run by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a group of women that saved the crumbling mission from being turned into a hotel in 1905. It's open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.. Admission is free.

ABOUT THE ALAMODOME: The arena has 160,000 gross square feet of space. Translation: it's huge! The Alamodome has 961 doors and 88 restrooms and is home to the Alamo Bowl and the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association.

ARIZONA FUNCTIONS: The UA and Arizona alumni will host a pre-game pep rally, 4-6 p.m. tomorrow at Sunset Station, 102 Heiman St.

There is no charge to the public, though fans will be charged for food and drinks.

The UA pep band, cheerleaders and pomline will be performing prior to the game. Should the Wildcats win, another pep rally will be held at Sunset Station three hours prior to Sunday's game. The unofficial UA alumni headquarters will be Dick's Last Resort, 406 Navarro St., near the Riverwalk.

TICKET INFORMATION: According to the Alamodome Ticket Office, plenty of good seats are still available for all three games. Tickets start at $150 for the entire weekend, which includes both regional semifinal games and the regional final. Part of the Dome - which was built as a football stadium - will be roped off to give the arena a more intimate feel.
