A Tucson woman was arrested yesterday for driving under the influence after she crashed her car near the University Medical Center.
Angela Garnica, of the 9000 block of East 28th Street, was reported to UAPD by a UMC security officer at 2:55 a.m. The security officer said he heard a vehicle accelerating, then run into the west curb of North Martin Avenue, causing three tires to flatten. He attempted to make contact with Garnica and said he noticed her eyes were red and bloodshot and her speech was slurred, reports stated.
The reporting police officer immediately noticed a strong odor of intoxicants from Garnica's mouth, reports stated.
When asked by the officer to step out of her car and put her shoes on, Garnica stumbled and had difficulty getting outside, reports stated.
After being told she was to perform a field sobriety test, Garnica pointed at her car and said, "Isn't it obvious I've had too much to drink," reports stated.
Garnica also said she knew she shouldn't have been driving, and she had called a friend who did not come to pick her up. Garnica said when her friend did not come to pick her up she drove herself and got lost, reports stated.
The police officer handcuffed Garnica and transported her to UAPD, reports stated.
During the transport Garnica began crying. She said she had a problem with 40-year-old men buying her drinks at the bar, reports stated.
Garnica had a blood alcohol content of 0.138, reports stated.

The men hid from view by running into the yards of residences, reports stated.
Police made contact with the five men. Four admitted to being illegal entrants from Mexico looking for work in the U.S., reports stated.
Timothy DelaTorre, of the 1300 block of East Elm Street, told police that he was the driver of the Nissan, and he had smuggled the men into the U.S. from Mexico, reports stated.
The four illegal entrants were taken into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol. DelaTorre was taken into custody by police, reports stated.
A UA student's car stereo was stolen yesterday from her vehicle, which was parked in a campus lot.
A friend of the student heard the sound of glass breaking outside her window overlooking the parking lot. She looked out the window to see a man by her friend's car, reports stated.
The car owner's friend called the police and when she returned to the window the man was gone, reports stated.
Upon arrival, the reporting officer approached the car with the owner. The student and owner of the car noticed that the face plate to her Pioneer Stereo, valued at $200, was missing, and the driver side window, valued at $200, was broken, reports stated.
The doors were found unlocked, though the student said she had locked them, reports stated.
The police officer recovered one fingerprint from the driver side door handle, reports stated.
Police did not find the man and there are no other witnesses, reports stated.
A UA student backed up her vehicle yesterday into another student's in a campus garage.
The student, who was driving her father's pickup truck in the Park Avenue Garage, 1140 N. Park Ave., stopped for a car pulling out of a parking space. She then backed her silver Nissan into the car behind her, reports stated.
The impacted car had damage to the hood and head lamp cover, reports stated.
