UA to face Tucson Lacrosse Club in post-season tune-up

By Jeff Lund

Arizona Daily Wildcat

Coming off a win that secured homefield advantage in the first round of the conference playoffs, the Laxcats will try and avoid a letdown when they take on the Tucson Lacrosse Club at Laxcat Coliseum tomorrow afternoon at 1.

Last weekend, No. 8 Arizona closed out its conference regular season home schedule, but the work is far from over. Although the Laxcats beat TLC handily early in the season, Arizona will need to build up a head of steam heading into their next two games.

Next week, UA will take on No. 11 Colorado and No. 1 Colorado State on the road to finish up the regular season.

"The value of this game can't be second-guessed," UA head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said of the weekend's match. "Its very important. We need to keep playing well. If we take this game to casually, then we will get into practicing bad habits rather than practicing good habits."

The Laxcats - who have no risen to the top of the lacrosse RPI ranking -said they how important it is to play well in their final home game before traveling to the cooler locale.

If history is any indication, Arizona should be sitting pretty tomorrow. On February 17th, UA tallied its second-highest goal output of the season en route to a 22-5 victory against TLC. It was the first of four consecutive 20-plus goal games for Felton's team.

"Its all very exciting," Felton said. "We are in a very tight race in the conference."

In the latest poll, the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) had four teams in the top ten. Felton said he is excited that he is closing out the season against two top teams on the road.

"It's getting down to who wants the ball more," Felton said. "If that's not motivating, then nothing is. We leave the excuses at home in a dirty laundry bag."
