UA tries to end season on a winning note

The Arizona soccer team will wrap up its season this weekend at Murphey Stadium. Win or lose, the players know the team has made significant strides throughout the season.

"I don't think I'll be disappointed, win or lose, because I think we have definitely improved this season," senior defender Ann Giallonardo said. "I want to make sure I go out on my best game. I would be unsatisfied if I didn't play well, so that's what I'm looking for this weekend - to play the best that I can."

Senior goalkeeper Inger Airheart said the Wildcats (3-13-2 overall, 0-6-1 Pacific 10 Conference) are ready to take on No. 25 USC tonight at 7 and No. 5 UCLA Sunday afternoon at 1.

"I'd love to go out on a winning note, that's what we're going to try to do," Airheart said. "We know we have a chance because we've played top teams in the country repeatedly to close, tight games. So there's no fear, really."

Though USC (11-5-2, 3-3-1) has lost four of its last five games, UA head coach Cathy Klein said the team is not taking the Trojans lightly.

"USC is a very talented, organized, dangerous team and anytime we catch them, no matter what their results have been, we are still the underdog," Klein said.

UCLA (14-2-1, 5-1-1) is coming off a sweep against No. 20 Stanford and No. 8 California last weekend.

"Every game is a battle, every game is a game that we need to try to win. UCLA is no different than any of the other great teams on our schedule," Klein said. "It's going take our 'A' game. It's going to take a concentrated effort."
