A UA student told police Friday "it was an old family secret," after he slipped out of his handcuffs at the Pima County Corrections Center, reports stated.
Residence Life employees called police when they realized that Gregory R. Schneider had returned to Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall, 940 E. Fourth St. Schneider has been told by UAPD and Residence Life that he was not allowed to return to the residence hall, reports stated.
When officers asked the student why he was there, he said, "my sister was throwing up, and I was checking on her," reports stated.
He also told officers he remembered he was not supposed to return for any reason but he thought that checking on his sister's well-being was a good enough reason, reports stated.
Schneider's sister does not live at the residence hall.
The student was cuffed and arrested on suspicion of trespassing and taken to Pima Corrections Center, where he waited for a pretrial hearing, reports stated.
Police checked on the student after they heard a noise coming from the room where he was waiting. Schneider had scraped, bleeding wrists and had put the handcuffs on the bench next to him, reports stated.
"Sorry, man, they were too tight. It's an old family secret," he told police, reports stated.
The student was cuffed again with his hands behind his back. Five minutes later, officers realized that Schneider had moved his cuffed hands to the front of his body, reports stated.
The handcuffs were reset to his back, and he was told not to move them to the front of his body.
He was booked into Pima County Jail on suspicion of trespassing, reports stated.
"This is bullshit. They have no reason to keep me out of that dorm," the student told officers during the drive to jail, reports stated.
A UA student was placed into the diversion program Friday after officers found 18 cans of Coors Light and Natural Light Ice beer in his residence hall room, reports stated.
A resident assistant at Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1400 E. Fifth St., told police that she suspected a student was drinking in the hall, reports stated.
Police went to the student's room and knocked on his door but did not get a response.
They went outside the hall and found the resident, Kevin R. Till, 18. Till told police he was not a student and did not live at the residence hall. Police read Till his Miranda rights, and Till told them he was a student and did live in the hall.
When police asked why Till lied, he said, "I don't know, I was stupid," reports stated.
Till allowed police to enter his room. They found 18 cold beers, two of which were open, reports stated. Till told officers he had been in the room earlier with some friends. He said he had been drinking, but his friends had not. He would not tell police who bought the beer for him, reports stated.
Till was placed into the Dean of Students Diversion Program on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol, reports stated.
Officers photographed the beer before pouring it down the sink of the residence hall bathroom, reports stated.
A Tucson man was cited Friday near campus after police found a smoking pipe and marijuana on him, reports stated.
Police pulled over Brian Bozich, 22, near East Sixth Street and North Euclid Avenue, reports stated. Police searched Bozich, of the 3000 block on North Flowing Wells, for any weapons.
They found a silver aluminum smoking pipe and a small baggie of marijuana. The pipe had a burnt residue, reports stated.
Bozich told police both items were his.
"Yes it's mine, for my personal smoke," he told police.
The items were taken into evidence, and Bozich was cited and released on suspicion of unlawful possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, reports stated.
Police found a smoking pipe Friday in the back of their squad car, reports stated.
A Pima County Sheriff's deputy saw the pipe in the back of the UAPD car, which was parked at Pima County Jail, 1270 W. Silverlake St., reports stated. He told the UA officers they should cite the car's last occupant for the smoking pipe.
A UAPD supervisor told the officer he would not be able to connect the pipe to the last occupant, reports stated.
Officers asked the person in the back of the squad car if it was his. They said that because he is already being charged with drug paraphernalia, it wouldn't really matter if he claimed responsibility, reports stated.
The man said the pipe was not his.
