On a tear: Sophomore designated player/first baseman Leneah Manuma must have eaten her Wheaties before last weekend's five home games.
Friday, Manuma had back-to-back two-homer games against Eastern Michigan and San Jose State. She followed that performance with a solo blast Saturday against Northern Iowa to bring her season home run total to 10.
She also had 13 RBIs in the five games, bringing her season total to 37.
Manuma's current average of .52 home runs per game and 1.95 RBIs per game has her on pace to put up 31 home runs and 117 RBIs by the end of the regular season.
Postseason stats count toward the final totals, so Manuma could increase those numbers should her team make it deep into the postseason.
Getting it going: Heading into last weekend's tournament, freshman outfielder Candace Abrams was the lone Wildcat without a hit.
That all changed Friday against Eastern Michigan when she hit an RBI single to left.
Abrams wasn't about to stop there, as she went on to get a hit in each of her next four at-bats, including her first career home run Saturday off Drake senior Michelle Markham.
Abrams started the weekend hitting .000 - she finished it hitting .412.
Blonde bomber: Freshman third baseman Jackie Coburn said she didn't like the shade of blond her hair came out last week when she dyed it.
She may want to keep it though, considering the weekend she had.
Coburn hit two home runs, bringing her total to four on the year and also had the team's first triple of the year on Friday.
Coburn turned in a couple of gems defensively including a diving catch in the final inning of Sunday's game against Cal State Northridge that left her sporting a strawberry on her right arm.
Ouch: The Wildcats got some bad news last week when they learned that freshman left fielder Courtney Fossatti would be out of action for up to a month with a broken bone in her right foot.
Fossatti, who said she thinks she injured herself running the bases, was the leading hitter in the starting lineup with a .475 average.
Fossatti hopes to be back on the field in time for the Kia Classic March 14-17 in Fullerton, Calif.
That weekend in California, Arizona could potentially match up with Fresno State, where Courtney's sister Lindsay is a senior first baseman.
Didn't miss a beat: With Fossatti out of the lineup, freshmen Crystal Farley and Carrie Hagen spent most of the weekend filling in at the No. 2 spot in the batting order.
The two didn't miss a beat, combining for an on-base percentage of .529 - slightly under the .553 mark held by Fossatti.
They know good ball: The fans at Rita Hillenbrand Stadium know good softball when they see it, and this weekend they proved it with the largest weekend attendance total of the year.
Senior Jennie Finch's successful pursuit of 51 straight victories also brought the season's largest crowd of 2,136 out to the ballpark Sunday afternoon.
