Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month, and the Associated Students of the University of Arizona's Women's Resource Center has joined forces with Las Sinfronteras, Students Against Sweatshops, the CR Collective and other local activist organizations to present the following events. The activities and discussions are designed to promote knowledge of oppressions that affect the self-respect and social positions of modern women.

Today:Paint a tile to help create a mosaic for "Take Back The Night" from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Mall.

and

Exercise your power by taking the free self-defense class from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Turquoise Room of the Park Student Union.

Tomorrow (International Women's Day): An informal panel titled "Men and Feminism" will be followed by an informal, conference-style discussion. The talk goes from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in rooms 301 and 303 of the Swede Johnson building.

Saturday: The Dinnerware Gallery, located at 135 E. Congress St., presents an evening of poetry and spoken word called "A Night of Voices." The reading is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

March 20: Another free self-defense class runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The location is to be announced.

March 22: Ryan Mojahead educates about rape and sexual assault, new perspectives about rapists and relationship violence from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 129 of McClelland Hall.

March 27: The CR Collective presents its annual Anti-Fashion Fashion Show from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Dereka Rushbrook and Celeste Espinoza discuss maquila industries and clothing. The location is to be announced.

March 28: A conference explores birth control, contraceptives and abortion regarding their relationship to women's rights and their roles in relationships. This panel is from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Swede Johnson building.

March 29: "Take Back the Night!" This international movement expresses solidarity and is dedicated to understanding and abolishing violence against women and children on a local, national and global scale.

A march to protest violence against women will start at the UA temporary stage at 6 p.m. There will be music by local female performers, poetry readings, performances from actresses from this year's "Vagina Monologues", and other speakers.
