The No. 12 Arizona gymnastics team finished in second place Thursday in its final home meet of the season, a quadrangular meet featuring No. 11 Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Washington and the host Gymcats.

Arizona finished the season with a 7-1 home record as it set itself for postseason play.

Minnesota (13-5) took top honors, defeating Arizona (10-6, 4-3 Pacific 10 Conference) by a score of 196.850-196.125. Washington (5-9) finished in third place with a score of 194.425 while Northern Illinois (2-14) rounded out the field in fourth with a score of 189.900.

Despite the loss, the Arizona squad continued its quest to earn a spot in the national competition by gaining a victory on floor exercise with a team-record score of 49.575, along with winning the team beam title with a score of 49.225.

Arizona senior Randi Liljenquist - performing in her last home meet as a Wildcat - scored a 10.000 on floor exercise, the second perfect score of her career in the event. Liljenquist finished second on the bars (9.850) and on the beam (9.875) en route to winning the all-around title with a score of 39.550.

Sophomore Andi McCabe and freshman Monica Bisordi also won individual titles for the Wildcats. McCabe tied a career high with a 9.975 on the vault, winning her sixth title of the year in the event. Bisordi won her second beam title of the season with a 9.900 while also setting career highs on floor (9.950) and in the all-around (39.400).

"Overall, we had a solid performance," said head coach Bill Ryden. "We had some problems on bars, but that was somewhat of an aberration. If we continue to perform well on the beam and regain our form on the bars, we will be able to keep moving along right into the postseason."

The loss to Minnesota comes just after a tough road defeat at the hands of No. 7 Oklahoma earlier in the week, 196.700-15.500.

Junior Nikki Beyschau won her first individual title of the season with a career high 9.950 on vault, while the Wildcats won the team vault title as well with a score of 49.500.

"We are continually making progress with each new meet," Ryden added. "I feel good about how the team is performing and am happy that we have been able to keep our ranking steady."

Next up for Arizona is the Pac-10 conference championship meet in Stanford, Calif. on Saturday. The Pac-10 currently has five teams ranked in the top 20 nationally, and each will look to solidify its postseason position this weekend.
