Baseball beats Beavers

The Arizona baseball team won the first game of its three-game set with Oregon State last night in Corvallis, Ore.

Senior Brad Hassey went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a three-run homer - his fourth of the season - and sophomore Moises Duran had a two-run shot of his own as UA (21-10, 2-2 Pacific 10 Conference) downed the Beavers, 13-9.

UA sophomore Sean Rierson tallied his fifth win of the season, going seven innings with five strikeouts and two walks. OSU starter Ben Rowe gave up 10 runs in 2.2 innings to fall to 4-2 on the year.

Arizona faces Oregon State (15-5, 0-1) today at 2 p.m. in the series' second game in Corvallis.

Schoeman sets record

Arizona senior swimmer Roland Schoeman broke his own NCAA record in the 200m freestyle relay yesterday during competition at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga.

The All-American shaved .01 seconds off his old record of 19.07 seconds - set in 2000 - with a 19.07 mark in the preliminaries.

Schoeman's time was also a meet record, beating the old mark held by Texas' Neil Walker.
