As their season continues to wind down and with the NCAA Championships approaching, there is only one priority for Dave Murray's track and field teams - earning NCAA qualifying marks.
Last weekend, the Wildcats went up to ASU to compete in the Sun Angel Classic and came home with 21 qualifying performances between the men and the women.
On the women's side, senior Brianna Glenn placed second in the 100m with a time of 11.43.
Glenn also emerged victorious in the long jump with a leap of 21 1/25.
"Brianna ran a great race," Murray said. "She may have finished in second place, but her competition was no slouch. She was running against Angela Williams of USC, who won both the indoor and outdoor championships in the 100m last year."
Senior Alexandra Komnos earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a time of 13.57 in the 100m hurdles.
Junior Danielle Price was the top Wildcat distance runner of the day, earning a Pac-10 qualifying time with a 2:09.88 in the 800m.
On the men's side, senior Mike Kenyon finally broke through in the 400m, with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 45.38 and a third-place finish.
"Mike Kenyon ran very well," Murray said. "He set the new 400m school record and deservedly earned a qualifying time."
The 4x100 men's relay team finished in third place with a time of 40.01 and the 4x400 men's relay team finished fifth in a time of 3:08.32.
"Our relay teams ran exceptionally will," UA assistant coach Fred Harvey said. "Both teams ran their best times all season."
Freshman distance runner Aaron Powell came in seventh in the 800m, with a personal-best time of 1:52.76.
Freshman Sean Shields also placed third in the shot put, earning an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 59-10.
On the whole, coaches Murray and Harvey said they both were pleased with their team's performance last week.
"The people who needed to step up this week did a fantastic job."
This weekend, Arizona will compete in the Mount San Antonio relays in Walnut, Calif.
