Rack up four more Pacific 10 Conference qualifying marks and two more NCAA qualifying times for the UA track and field teams thanks to last weekend's Mt. San Antonio College Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Arizona coaches Dave Murray and Fred Harvey said they were pleased with their team's performance in the three-day meet.
The first day of competition featured both the men's and women's distance events.
On the women's side, UA senior Tara Chaplin and junior Kim Bates represented Arizona in the 10,000m.
Chaplin finished in 10th place with a time of 33:30.59, which was good enough to earn her a NCAA automatic qualifying time.
Bates finished just behind Chaplin in 12th place, with a time of 35:07.94, which earned her a NCAA provisional qualifying time.
"Tara Chaplin was a big automatic qualifier in the 10,000m for us, and Beth Hoge also ran very, very fast and improved on her provisional time," Murray said.
For the men, top performances came out of the 3,000m steeplechase and the 5,000m.
Senior Steve Smith and sophomore Mark Anderson finished No. 12 and No. 13, respectively, with their times separated by only a second.
Both athletes earned Pacific 10 Conference qualifying times, and Anderson also ran a season-best.
In the 5,000m, senior Tom Prindiville's time of 14:13.44 automatically placed him in the Pac-10 championships.
Saturday's competition featured primarily field events and the "middle-distance carnival."
"We had a few pole vaulters no-height and we also had a jumper fault twice, so we still have some things to work on," Harvey said.
On the women's side, senior Cara Cline was rewarded with a Pac-10 qualifying mark after her third-place finish in the 800m.
Junior Danielle Price also ran a good race to finish in fourth place, less than a second behind Cline.
For the men, freshman Sean Shields improved his Pac-10 qualifying mark in the discus with a toss of 176-5.
Sophomore Chris Chappell finished tied for third in the pole vault with a leap of 16-10 and one half.
The women's action Sunday was highlighted by senior Brianna Glenn, who improved her NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 100m to 11.34.
Glenn also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20-2 1/2.
On the men's side, freshman Jeff Hunter took home the victory in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.09.
Hunter also finished second in the 400m hurdles, improving his time to 51.33.
Sean Shields launched a personal best throw of 60-6 in the shot put for the outdoor season.
Senior Mike Kenyon was just seconds away from a personal best with his time of 45.90 in the 400m.
"Mike Kenyon ran a very nice 400m, and Jeff Hunter had a good run and hurdle," Murray said. "Kenyon finished third in the 400m, which features a real strong field, so that's good.
"We were definitely impressed with their performances this late in the season because it's when they need to be at their best."
Murray said he is confident in his team but knows there's still room for improvement.
"Overall, it was a good meet with a few strong ups and a few strong downs," Murray said. "But this week is real important. We've got the Drake relays coming up, and we need to be ready."
The Drake relays start Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.
