Dear UA Students:
Welcome to the 2002 season of Arizona athletics! UA football is gearing up for a year filled with offensive firepower, improved defense and gridiron thrills. Weāre touting an outstanding recruiting class ranked among the top 20 in the nation and the team is on the rise. We hope to see you at Arizona Stadium on Aug. 31 for our home opener and each game thereafter. Tailgate at the Fan Fiesta and then head over to the game for a great way to spend a Saturday night with friends. Our student section and the Red Zone are just waiting for pumped up fans.
On Sept. 14, help us celebrate the grand opening of the Eddie Lynch Athletic Pavilion before the Utah home football game. If you havenāt seen the facility in its entirety, you will be impressed with the new weight room, medical treatment center and Heritage Hall. The new facility will help continue to bring top-notch recruits to all UA programs. We want you to be a part of the celebration as we usher in a new era for Arizona athletics.
I am also exited about the other fall sports programs. Our eighth-ranked volleyball team, which not only signed the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation but also returns a stellar line-up from last year who reached the Final Four for the first time in program history, plans to take it all the way in 2002. The cross-country team looks to continue its tradition of postseason success and our soccer team, with the best sideline fans in the country, is poised to make a run at the NCAA Tournament. Check out the excitement at any of our fall sporting events.
All of our student-athletes take great pride in representing you and UA. We wear our red and blue with pride and we hope you do, too. So, please join me this fall as we take the UA one step closer to the top.
Again, thank you for your support of Arizona Athletics. Football tickets are on sale now, so come on out!
Bear Down,
Jim Livengood
