UMC to discontinue level 1 trauma care
Service could remain available if another local hospital agrees to enter partnership
UMC will no longer offer Level 1 trauma care at year's end if no other southern Arizona hospital joins it in a partnership to offer Level 1 trauma care.
University Medical Center officials said yesterday it does not have the staff or space to be Southern Arizona's only Level 1 trauma center - which has the capacity to efficiently handle any medical emergency.
UMC's decision comes two weeks after the Tucson Medical Center announced it would be closing its Level 1 trauma center because of financial losses.

Trend progresses toward merging of academia and industry
Trend toward merging of academia and industry state-wide
As part of a movement toward pairing together academia and industry, four UA professors have started a company to turn their research into a product, despite some concern that the company may be a conflict of the professors' interests.
The company will create a new type of microscope-like device that will allow doctors in rural areas to more easily obtain second opinions for a prognosis, extending the reach of rural medicine statewide.

Hagler, "Furnexistential" comic should just stop
Using Jason Aillaud's Wednesday letter as a springboard, I would also like to express my dislike for Josh Hagler and his comic. Despite his comic being the worst in the paper, Josh Hagler remains the illustrations editor...

Many famous musicians have certain traditions and habits they follow before, during and after a performance. For internationally renowned vocalist Cesaria Evora, going sans shoes is a must.
