On this date: In 1870, the first trademark in the United States was awarded to the Averill Chemical Paint Company of New York City. In 1920, King Alexander of Greece died from blood poisoning after being bitten by a pet monkey. In 1955, in Mansfield, Ohio, the microwave oven was introduced at the corporate headquarters of the Tappan Company. The device, called the new stove, could cook eggs in 22 seconds, and bacon in 90 seconds. In 1960, the Bulova Watch Company introduced the high-tech Accutron, electronic wrist watch. It was introduced as the watch that astronauts wear.
