A student was cited for criminal littering Tuesday after she picked up a joint and threw it from the top level of a campus garage before an officer could pick it up, reports stated.

At 11:15 a.m., an officer on a bicycle was patrolling on the top level of the Tyndall Garage, 880 E. Fourth St., when he observed a woman, later identified as Rachel Schang, 22, leaning over the railing of the north side of the garage.

Schang, of the 8000 block of North Latimore Lane, turned around, exhaled smoke and dropped an object as the officer approached her, reports stated.

The officer smelled burning marijuana coming from Schang and saw what appeared to be a joint on the ground. When he first approached, Schang repeatedly asked, "Can you just give me a warning?" reports stated.

The officer asked Schang what she had, and she said, "Nothing."

The officer tried to pick up the joint, but Schang picked it up and threw it over the side of the garage, reports stated.

Schang tried to walk away, but the officer grabbed the woman's arm and read her rights. She said she understood her rights and would answer his questions.

The officer asked what she was smoking, and she said it was a cigarette. The officer asked her why she dropped the joint and threw it over the edge.

The officer searched Schang with her consent and did not find any marijuana.

The officer also did not find any cigarettes, and Schang said it was because she "bummed" it off someone.

Attempts were made to find the joint, but it was not recovered.

Schang was cited and released for criminal litering.

A man suffered several injuries to his face Wednesday after three suspects knocked him off of his bike and beat him up, reports stated.

At around 1:30 a.m., police met with a man on the sidewalk south of the Campus Health Center, 1571 E. University Blvd. The man's nose was bleeding, but he refused medical attention.

He told officers that 10 minutes earlier, he was riding his bike eastbound on the corner of East University Boulevard and North Cherry Avenue when three white males in their early 20s confronted him and said, "Hey, pussy," before knocking him off his bike, reports stated.

The three suspects hit and kicked him in the head. One suspect lifted his head and pulled it off the ground, arching the victim's back and exposing his face, allowing the other suspects to punch him in the face repeatedly. The suspects then fled northbound on North Cherry Avenue on foot.

Officers circulated the area but did not find the suspects.

A beaded necklace and watch the suspects left at the scene were placed into evidence.

Photographs were taken both of the scene and of the victim's injuries.

The man had a scrape on the right part of his head, a swollen and bleeding nose, and a swollen mouth and lips with small cuts inside his lips. The man told officers he wants to prosecute.

There are no suspects at this time, reports stated.

A man was arrested for possession of burglary tools, burglary in the third degree, resisting arrest, theft, criminal damage, false reporting to law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia, Wednesday after he ran from police when he was caught stealing a bicycle, reports stated.

At 3:30 p.m., police went to the area near East Sixth Street and North Park Avenue in response to a suspicious man looking at bikes.

While police were on their way, dispatch described the man and advised police that he was seen cutting a lock and taking a bike, reports stated.

Police saw a man fitting the suspect's description riding a bike on East Sixth Street. Police pulled up next to the man and ordered him several times to stop.

Police stopped at the corner of East Sixth Street and North Tyndall Avenue, and the man got off the bicycle and ran eastbound.

Eventually, the officers brought the man to the ground and handcuffed him.

Police found a cut cable lock near the man and bolt cutters in his front pocket, reports stated.

Police then found a syringe and a plastic medication bottle that said "Methadone" on the label.

The man told police he was Richard Gonzales, 42, of the 300 block of Kelso Street, and that he stole the bike because he is addicted to heroin.

Gonzales was taken to Pima County jail for booking, reports stated.
