Men's volleyball remains undefeated
The No. 1 UA men's volleyball team won its annual Desert Thunder tournament last weekend at the Student Recreation Center to improve its record to 13-0 this season.
The tournament field featured three other ranked teams in No. 5 Colorado, No. 9 Michigan State and No. 10 San Diego State.
On their way to the victory, the Wildcats defeated Colorado St., Wyoming and California junior college Golden West on Saturday.
Sunday's action saw UA top the Spartans and notch another victory over Golden West.
UA middle blocker Scott Ogilvie was named the tournament's most valuable player. Senior setter Jeff Grobe and outside hitter Matt Olson joined Ogilvie on the all-tournament team.
This weekend, the Wildcats travel to Davis, Calif., to play in a tougher regional tournament. Among the competitors are five other ranked teams, including the Buffaloes and Aztecs.

Splashcats down Stanford in warmup for regionals
Last weekend, the Arizona synchronized swimming team defeated Stanford and Washington at home in the Student Recreation Center pool.
Team president Michelle Meyer said the win over Stanford - a varsity team that placed second last year at nationals - was a landmark victory for the Splashcats.
"We were very impressed with our win, and we feel it deserves attention," Meyer said.
The meet marked the last home action this season for the 12 members of the team.
The team finished its last home meet this weekend.
Next, the Splashcats travel to West Zone Regionals in Seattle starting Feb. 24. The Splashcats have also qualified for nationals March 19-24 in Boston.

Women's hockey wins weekend tournament
The Arizona Icers A and B teams swept their respective divisions this weekend at the Las Vegas Women's Hockey Classic.
The A team shut out four consecutive opponents en route to the Novice 4 Division title at the tournament, which featured club teams from the college ranks as well as independent teams.
The developmental B team went undefeated as well to win the Novice 5 Division at the Vegas tourney.
