Sophomore writer speaks on anti-war activism and ĪThe Simpsons'
Wildcat: What is it you like about creative writing?
Garnice: I like creative writing because I think it's another vehicle to portray a message in order to implement some kind of societal change.
Wildcat: Interesting. Who is your favorite author?
Garnice: My favorite author at the moment would have to be Irvine Welsh.
Wildcat: What kinds of things do you like writing about?
Garnice: I like writing fiction with political overtones, putting people in other situations that they wouldn't regularly be in.
Wildcat Photographer: My ex-girlfriend likes creative writing and she writes about people getting their heads chopped off.
Garnice: Well that's another approach.
Wildcat: You said earlier that you like writing about politics, I read earlier today that tomorrow is some sort of national student strike against the war in Iraq. Will you be participating?
Garnice: No, I'm not for war in Iraq, and I think since they are destroying their weaponry there really is no point. But I prefer to show my opposition in other ways, writing to the President, writing to editors of newspapers to show my opposition. So no, I won't be there.
Wildcat Photographer: So you're not locking yourself in a building?
Wildcat: Or to a building?
Garnice: No, unfortunately not, although it sounds like a riveting experience.
Wildcat Photographer: If you had to be a "Simpsons" character, who would you be?
Garnice: That's a wretched question.
Wildcat: Why is that? "The Simpsons" is the best show that's ever been on television.
Garnice: I disagree.
Wildcat: What would you say the best show on television was?
Garnice: The best show ever on television would have to be "That Girl."
Wildcat: I've never seen that.
Garnice: It's kind of a rip off of Mary Tyler Moore. I don't really care for "The Simpsons" because it's a little too accurate of a portrait of our society. I don't find that funny, I find it tragic.
