Student body president Doug Hartz took a couple of hard blows this week. Both of the issues he worked tirelessly on during his tenure, tuition and fall break, died.
But still, Hartz deserves credit. Although his stances on both issues were misguided, he has put more time into being president than the two or three guys who sat in his seat before him.

He's smart, charismatic and reliable.
He's ushered in a new era where students sit at the table with administrators, and that's good ÷ as long as the student body president doesn't become an administrator in training.
Hartz has built the bridge, and hopefully the next student body president will use it.
The two guys looking to grab his seat next week, J.P. Benedict and Jered Mansell, have the opportunity to utilize the power Hartz brought to the office.
Will that individual succeed at maintaining it? Voters will have to wait and see.
In debates and forums, both candidates have pointed to Hartz' lack of accessibility.
Yes, Hartz should have been more forthcoming on the tuition issue, but let's not put too much spin on it, guys. The man's not a fascist. He's a student with a demanding, difficult job.
While Hartz has gotten his fair share of flack during his reign as president, he has maintained a professional demeanor, and everyone who works with him will speak to his hard work ethic.
Of course, Hartz isn't done yet. He's got two months left.
The student tuition proposal and fall break were both bad ideas, but they showed that Hartz has foresight and brains.
He can still make or break his legacy as president.
Doug, brush yourself off. You're not a lame duck yet.
