Freshman Erica Blasberg ready to make pro debut this week in Tucson

In just her second semester at UA, Erica Blasberg has done more than make a name for herself in the world of collegiate golf.

Come tomorrow though, that all goes out the window as she will try to make her first paw print on the LPGA tour at the Welch's/Fry's Championship of Tucson, at Dell Urich Golf Course at Randolph Park. [Read article]

Yesterday against Portland, head coach Andy Lopez expected his team to play better than it did when it lost last weekend's series at defending national champion Texas.

We did some things that were OK today, but we really have some areas that we need to work on." [Read article]

Seven 'Cats earn Pac-10 recognition

The Pacific-10 Conference recognized seven Wildcat basketball players this week, naming seniors Luke Walton and Jason Gardner to the All-Pac-10 team.

Sophomores Channing Frye and Salim Stoudamire and senior Rick Anderson were given honorable mention all-conference honors.

Freshmen Hassan Adams and Andre Iguodala were also named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team.

"I am very pleased that we had seven guys honored," UA head coach Lute Olson said. "It just shows the balance that we have on our team." [Read article]

Wildcats jump to top spot in national polls

The Arizona softball team found itself in a familiar place in the polls yesterday, but no one would know it from the group's reaction.

The ESPN.com/USA Today poll released yesterday has UA in the No. 1 position, the first time this season the Wildcats have moved to the top spot. Tied with UCLA (26-2) at 438 points, Arizona received 10 first place votes, compared to the Bruins' eight.

Inside Hillenbrand Stadium, however, the Wildcats are unfazed and have stayed indifferent to the numbers all season. [Read article]
