Late season woes overshadow UA's vast improvement

The women's basketball program ended one of its most successful seasons with one of the worst single game performances in recent history.

The Wildcats fell in the first round of the NCAA tournament 59-47 to Notre Dame while shooting a season-low 23.3 percent from the field.

Though the season ended on an extremely flat note, the team's final showing was not indicative of the progress the squad made. [Read article]

Why Gardner won: The right-handed hurler went 2-0 with 17 strikeouts and a 1.80 ERA in two starts last week against New Mexico and Southern California. Gardner, who transferred to UA this season from Santa Rosa Community College (Calif.), pitched a combined 15 innings and improved his season record to 6-0 to earn Pacific-10 Conference pitcher of the week honors. Tennis restarts postponed match against Sun Devils

One month ago to the day, the Arizona women's tennis team took on in-state rival Arizona State at home. The Wildcats were just a few games away from pulling the upset when the match was suddenly halted due to rain.

At the time, UA was ranked No. 24 while ASU was No. 8. The upset could have propelled the Wildcats into the top 20 and given them some much-needed momentum heading into the thick of their conference schedule. [Read article]
