After pounding Washington 22-0, the men's lacrosse team fell to No. 20 Cal, 5-4, due to an inability to capitalize on their scoring chances.
The No.5 Laxcats (8-4, 3-2) opened play last weekend by routing Washington. The next day, however, Cal pulled one of the biggest upsets in the country so far.
The Laxcats found themselves down 3-1 at the half but came back with three goals. Arizona dominated possession for the fourth quarter but was held scoreless in the final period, including a shot by attackman Jeems Lochridge with 18 seconds left.
"Overall I wasn't happy with the results," said head coach Adam Hopkins. "On Friday (we) just could not finish."
Attackman Mike Ravid led the way for the Laxcats against the Golden Bears with two goals, while attackmen Tom Ghaney and Ryan McFadden each had one. Arizona outshot Cal 35-4 and Golden Bear goalie Damon Wilson needed 17 saves to get the W.
"The stats of both games were ridiculously in our favor except for the score board on Friday," Hopkins said.
In the blowout of the Huskies, 18 Laxcats tallied at least one point, with Lochridge getting 10 and midfielder Kevin Eyre had two goals and two assists.
