Witnesses said a pedestrian crossing a street in front of oncoming traffic caused a vehicle collision on the south side of campus Wednesday, reports stated.
Both of the drivers involved in the collision said they were traveling eastbound on East Sixth Street near Arizona Stadium when they saw a pedestrian enter a crosswalk and three vehicles in front of him brake quickly, reports stated.
One of the cars was struck from behind. Witnesses verified the driver's statements, reports stated. Both drivers said they didn't want an accident report and would handle it themselves, reports stated. They exchanged information.
UAPD officers arrested a Mount Lemmon man Wednesday after a records check revealed he had a felony warrant.
Officers were performing a speed check on North Campbell Avenue when they witnessed a brown 1993 Chevrolet pickup traveling 51 mph in a 35 mph zone, reports stated. After pulling the driver over at East Sixth Street, the driver gave the officer identification that didn't indicate his date of birth. The driver then gave police a birth date that conflicted with the one dispatch found, and said he didn't have any other identification on him, reports stated.
The date and record that dispatch found showed that the man had three warrants out for his arrest. A further check showed the driver was registered with the state and had a social security number. After questioning him again, the driver told police he didn't know what the number was, reports stated.
A warrant check revealed the driver had a felony warrant out of Pima County for burglary, as well as two Tucson Police warrants for driving on a suspended license and giving police false information, reports stated.
The driver was arrested and additionally charged with driving on a suspended license and giving more false information to police, reports stated. He was booked into Pima County Jail.
Three unidentified men smashed a UA employee's sweeper after they stole it from him Monday, reports stated.
The suspects took the sweeper from the employee and then ran outside with it. The employee followed them and saw them smash it on the ground, reports stated.
When the suspects ÷ two of whom the employee said were wearing gray hooded sweatshirts and jeans, and one who wore a white jersey with the number five on it ÷ saw the employee watching them, they ran toward Old Main, 1000 E. University Blvd., reports stated.
Several officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspects. The sweeper, valued at $20, was returned to the employee. Police do not have any suspects.
