A bulletin board was intentionally set on fire outside the Social Sciences building, 1145 E. South Campus Dr., Tuesday, reports stated.
When the officers arrived on scene they noticed that part of the bulletin board was still smoldering, but no flames were visible. The officers used a fire extinguisher on the corkboard, reports stated.
Police believed the mobile bulletin board was set on fire intentionally because there were burn marks on different areas of it.
Tucson Fire crews were called to the scene.
A Texas woman called UA police Tuesday to report $300 in fraudulent credit charges on an account that she never opened, reports stated.
She learned of the fraudulent charges after she was approached by a collection agency for Citibank in Texas. She told the agents that she never applied for or received the credit card, reports stated.
She had no idea who would do this to her, but she suggested that maybe a student had when she lived here in Tucson more than a year ago and was attending the university.
The charges, beginning in May 2000, were mostly for increments of $6.00 at a "Bubbles" car wash. In some cases there were multiple $6 charges on a given day. There was no listing of a "Bubbles" car wash in the Tucson phone book, reports stated. There was also a payment, for a minimal amount, made on the card sometime during 2001. The card was last used in November 2002.
Police said that at the time the card was created it would have been easy for someone to get access to her social security number and mailbox to intercept statements because her social security number was the same as her student ID, reports stated. The woman was going to challenge the charges and wanted to provide Citibank with a copy of a police report.
A UA employee had her lime green mountain bike stolen from her outside the Flandrau Science Center, 1601 E. University Blvd., Tuesday, reports stated.
The bike cost $100, and it had been secured with a U-lock, which was also taken.
The bike also had a bumper sticker on it that said, "What would Xena do?"
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
