Head coach Allen hopes to lead women's golf to more postseason magic

When UA head coach Greg Allen left his job at Texas three seasons ago to head west to Tucson, nobody thought he could pick up a team that had just won a National Championship and actually make it better.

The 31-year old Boise State graduate has turned the program from great to amazing in three shorts years, and has been lucky enough to coach one of the greatest college players of all time, Lorena Ochoa. [Read article]

Wildcat hoops lucky to have Lute

It's weeks like these that Wildcat fans should feel lucky they have good old Lute as head basketball coach.

Not only does he turn out one of the best teams in the country year after year, but he would never be caught dead at a fraternity party pounding a few Natural Lights.

Believe me; yours truly would like nothing more than to see Lute Olson make a guest appearance at my fraternity's next bid night party. photo Zoo next step to packed houses

Two years ago, Arizona women's basketball head coach Joan Bonvicini, along with the sports marketers, publicized a student section experience for the Wildcats game with Arizona State.

Bonvicini wanted to expose students to women's basketball by selling the student section experience. T-shirts were handed out and students were herded together on the ASU side of the court.

With the new implementation and plans for the Zona Zoo, Bonvicini and other coaches of lower attended games might not have to self-promote much longer öö and they like it. [Read article]

Women's tennis confident while men get tough draw

UA tennis squads gear up for NCAA championships

It may not be as hyped as a certain 64-school tournament held in March, but for the UA men's and women's tennis squads, next month will be May madness.

The NCAA released its 64-school tournament brackets yesterday for both men and women's tennis, ranking UA's women as high as No. 16 out of the entire 64-team pool. The men made the field of 64 as well, although unranked. The Wildcats will be playing out of the No. 4 bracket with the fourth-ranked California squad hosting. [Read article]

Golf finishes 2nd at Pac-10 tourney

The University of Arizona men's golf team carded a two-over 362 yesterday to finish second at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships.

The runner-up performance was Arizona's best at the conference championships since 1994 by posting a four-round total of 1,466 (+26). Bolstered by two players finishing below par, Arizona's final round tally was the lowest of the championships. The Wildcats finished 27 strokes behind tournament-winner UCLA, who finished the four rounds at 1-under par. The Bruins were the only team to [Read article]
