Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde
Whether it was the overly ambitious Tracy Flick in 1999's Election or the stylish Elle Woods in the first Blonde film, Reece Witherspoon has proven herself as a brilliant comedic actress, able to balance great timing with physical humor. So, it's disappointing when a movie with the potential to showcase that talent falls short. Such is the case with Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.
The groundwork is there for a fun film: a great cast (Sally Field and Bob Newhart jump on board in dull, pointless roles), Witherspoon's character is already liked by all who saw the first film and the D.C. setting is the perfect backdrop for humor.
Instead, however, fans are given a film that relies almost entirely on pink dresses and small dogs, not on good writing. And even if you don't take the film too seriously, as you shouldn't, Blonde takes itself way too seriously.
It's good for a couple laughs, but definitely not worth full price.
