A group of teenagers assaulted a jogger Sunday evening on the University of Arizona Mall, reports stated.

The jogger told police he had just finished running and was walking on East University Boulevard near North Highland Avenue when a teenager on a BMX trick bicycle passed by, nearly hitting him.

A second bicyclist then rode by and laughed as he nearly hit the man, reports stated.

The man said that a third teenager, also on a BMX trick bicycle, then rode by and tried to punch him in the chest, but missed and hit his right forearm.

According to reports, the three laughed, shouted obscenities and gave the man the middle finger as they rode away.

About 15 minutes later, the jogger saw the teenagers riding with two others on East University Boulevard, south of the Student Union Memorial Center, reports stated. The cyclists then headed westbound on East University Boulevard.

The jogger told police that one of the teens was wearing a blue t-shirt with white letters on it, shorts and a baseball cap.

Police did not locate any of the bicyclists, but the jogger said he would like to press charges if they do, reports stated.

A victim's rights form was completed, and police gave a copy to the jogger.

University of Arizona police arrested a Tucson man for detonating fireworks north of campus early Saturday morning, reports stated.

An officer was patrolling the area near North Highland Avenue and East Adams Street when he saw a small bunch of fireworks explode nearby. The officer also saw a man standing near the location from which they were fired, reports stated.

The officer drove north through the intersection and pulled over. According to reports, as the officer exited the vehicle, the man approached him and said several times, "I only shot little ones."

The man identified himself to the officer, who found a purple "candle" firework on the wall that the man had been standing next to. The man said the wall bordered his back yard, reports stated.

Police found six additional fireworks in the area, one of which the man said was his, in addition to the purple "candle."

Police arrested the man for possessing and using fireworks and confirmed that he had three outstanding warrants from the Tucson Police Department, reports stated.

The two fireworks that the man said were his had both been detonated, and were taken into evidence after officers "watered them down to assure they had been put out," reports stated.

Officers could not tell if the remaining fireworks, which had been found in the street could still go off, so they bagged them and took them to the UAPD station for "proper destruction," reports stated.

They were put in unmarked barrels located along the south wall of the station, reports stated.

Two UA custodial employees called police early Saturday morning to report that someone had flooded the bathroom in a campus building, reports stated.

The water had come from a shower in the third-floor men's restroom on the east side of McClelland Hall, 1130 E. Helen St., and had leaked into the nearby hallway, soaking a 6-by-6-foot area, reports stated.

The employees told police they thought the water had run for about an hour before they discovered it, reports stated.

They also said that a similar incident had occurred in the same location about a month ago, causing more damage.

One of the employees believed someone had deliberately left the water running on both occasions to spite him and make more work for him, reports stated.

That employee said he had previously found notes in the building that read, "Mexicans should be cleaning restrooms," reports stated. On other occasions, the employee had to clean up vomit in the restroom and large piles of toilet paper.

The custodial supervisor asked UAPD to patrol the building at night because that is when prior incidents have occurred, reports stated.

Police warned three men for trespassing after they found the men taking photographs of students' CatCards Thursday afternoon, reports stated.

The men told police they were taking pictures of the CatCards so they could verify information students had submitted on credit card applications, reports stated. The men had set up two booths outside the Science Library, 744 N. Highland Ave., and said they were giving away Gatorade to students who completed the applications.

When a UAPD officer asked one of the men if he had a permission to be on campus, he told the officer, "Yeah, it's on file."

When UAPD checked with the Dean of Students Office, however, they said neither the man nor the company he said he represented had permission to solicit people on campus, reports stated.

Police shut down the booths the men had set up, and all three left campus after one of them gave police his boss' name and phone number, reports stated.

When the officer tried to call the phone number, however, he found it was invalid, reports stated.

Police confiscated 3 1/2 disks that contained five CatCard pictures.
