UA News
photo Badger poses biggest running threat yet

The good news for Arizona fans is Wisconsin running back Anthony Davis had a bad outing Saturday against Northern Illinois.

Running for only 49 yards on 14 carries against Northern Illinois, the sophomore had arguably the least-impressive performance of his career, and it almost cost the Badgers the game.

The bad news is that he can't be counted on to repeat last week's performance against the Wildcats on Saturday. [Read article]

Camp Randall, the home of the Wisconsin Badgers, has been described as one of the best places in the country to play college football and also one of the most hostile places to play because of the 76,129 screaming Badger fans.

Just ask head coach John Mackovic.

When he was the coach at Illinois, he ventured to his Big-10 foe four times. Each time, however, he walked away with a win.

"This will be fun," Mackovic said. "This will be college football. It's something that players look forward to. (Wisconsin fans) are active football fans and I would advise our fans not to wear red because they will blend in quite a bit." [Read article]

With a week gone by since former Wildcat Stefani Saragosa left the Arizona volleyball team, head coach David Rubio has solidified his rotation heading into the Pacific 10 Conference season this weekend.

Senior outside hitter Shannon Torregrosa has moved to the middle to replace Saragosa, and freshman Jennifer Abernathy has moved into the starting lineup to replace Torregrosa on the outside. [Read article]

Soccer sponsors Youth Saturday

The Arizona soccer team will promote itself to a younger audience at Sunday's game against San Diego.

The Wildcats designated the day as Youth Day at Murphey Stadium, the first home game for Arizona in three weeks.

"Youth Day is something that's always very exciting," head coach Cathy Klein said.

Youth Day allows a younger generation to be able to enjoy a day of collegiate soccer and participate in events conducted on the actual game field as well. [Read article]

Icecats start quest Oct. 25

Nineteen-straight ACHA tournament bids. Zero scholarships.

Eight Final-Four appearances. Zero dollars funded through the UAor NCAA.

One club team. One goal.

With 17 returning contributors to a team that ranked fifth-overall to close out last season, the UA Icecats and head coach Leo Golembiewski will be looking to hang another banner on the wall of the "mad-house on main street."

The quest begins Oct. 25 with an intrastate matchup at the Tucson Convention Center against Arizona State. [Read article]

Wildcat Staff Picks

John "as-seen-on-TV" Mackovic had better grab his suit, as the nation finally takes notice of the second-best passing attack in all the land, albeit at 9:00 a.m. J.J. gets 400 yards per, but "yards after catch" are what make Wade and ĪDrae so unstoppable. Oh yeah, and Clarence Farmer is way overdue. "Three-and-Oh, sure" has a nice ring to it.

Arizona 31 Wisconsin 24

Go find a copy of yesterday's Wildcat and read Jeff Lund's column about giving the PAC-10 some love. Colorado was overrated from the start, as shown by their New Year's Day trouncing, a-la Oregon, after that so-called Bull Championship Series snub. Last week, 62 total yards against USC. Saturday, the Buffs come to Pasadena for yet another ass-kicking. [Read article]
