ÎElite' oversimplifies efforts to reinvent UA by consensus

It's understandable that newspapers sometimes use shortcuts in headlines to describe complex issues.

The article "Likins details plans for UA's Îelite' future" attempted to describe a multifaceted process that will have multifaceted solutions that bear implications for all of us.

The word "elite," which has been used only by the media, is unfairly simplistic. [Read article]

Relationships: the dominant vs. the desperate

Printed in yesterday's Wildcat was a story on the balance of power between men and women in relationships ("Professor reveals secret to improving relationships").

Why doesn't he call back when he said he would? Is it all right to call her even though it's only been a day?

Or worse: What if the girl thinks they're in a relationship, but the guy sees her as nothing more than a "convenient friend?" [Read article]

photo Admitting that admissions need work

The UA stands here today in a unique position to make critical decisions about admissions, tuition and allocation of resources that will shape the way students learn at this institution for decades to come.

There is a big problem that must be confronted not only for current students but for those to come in the future. Let's face it: UA is accepting more freshmen each year than it can handle. Friday Face Off

Should Saddam Hussein's new offer to allow U.N. weapons inspectors into Iraq warrant the postponement of any U.S. military action in the region?

Hey, President Bush: Inspect this!

The front line of the war for · uh ·

The war's newest phase: The war on truth.

I'm confused. This is my normal state, but right now I'm even more confused than usual. First, El Presidente comes out and rattles off various vague accusations against Saddam, stopping just short of challenging him to a fistfight, says we're still considering other means besides armed confrontation ÷ and in this spirit immediately seeks a coalition of regional allies. Shortly thereafter, he claims that Saddam has violated the treaty he signed by kicking out the U.N. weapons inspectors and demands that the inspectors come back in or he'll be outta there like a National Guard pilot was outta Vietnam. Then, Saddam says he wants the inspectors to come in and President Bush says that he never said he wanted that, and anyway that's too little too late (Translation: We've already made plans. We'll meet you later.) and we're coming in if we damn well please and the U.N. can kiss it. [Read article]
