MADISON, Wis. ÷ There were 17 of them, all guys.

Those diehard UA football fans made the 2,000 plus mile trip to Madison, Wis., to represent their school, cheer on their football team and show the cheeseheads in the Midwest that their university isn't just a basketball school anymore.

Too bad the football team couldn't keep their end of the bargain.

However, by the end of this testosterone-filled, beer-drinking tour of unchartered territory ÷ this was the Wildcats' first game ever against the Badgers ÷ the crushing defeat didn't matter, because the memories they made were worth the embarrassment of the 21-point loss. [Read article]

Offense sputters, Wildcats crushed by Badgers 31-10

MADISON, Wis. öö Though it piled up 969 yards of total offense in the first two games of the season, few thought Arizona's offense was going to have its way with No. 22 Wisconsin.

But this was unexpected.

The Wildcats (2-1) put up one of their worst offensive efforts in head coach John Mackovic's tenure, losing 31-10 to the Badgers on Saturday in Camp Randall Stadium. [Read article]

Volleyball 1-1 in Pac-10

With its non-conference schedule over, the Arizona volleyball team opened its Pacific 10 Conference with a split against No. 1 USC and 11th ranked UCLA.

"It was a terrific weekend for us," head coach David Rubio said. "It is disappointing anytime that you lose, but a split against the No. 1 and 11 schools for a young team is a good weekend."

Friday, No. 15 Arizona (6-4 overall, 1-1 Pac-10) came out and took it to the Bruins in a 3-1 (32-30, 30-26, 29-31, 30-23). [Read article]

Pac-10 bad at football

It happened again last weekend.

Pacific 10 schools failed to show up for their games.

I'm not talking about the Washington and Oregon schools öö the weekend's four winners.

I mean the other ranked Pac schools, who all lost big-time games against big-time teams.

Colorado, which was coming off of an embarrassing loss to Southern California last week, drubbed UCLA on the road. The other three losses came when Wisconsin blew out Arizona, Kansas State held on against USC and Air Force slipped by California in the last minute. [Read article]
