The Wildcats went into Madison Saturday looking for an upset over a Top 25 school, but what they got was an upset coach.

"I'm angry at the way that we played," head coach John Mackovic said. "I'm upset that we didn't do a better job getting our team ready to play. That was not the kind of effort we expect.

"(The players) aren't really angry with the game. We are just angry at ourselves."

Arizona committed many mistakes in its 31-10 loss to Wisconsin and Mackovic highlighted them all yesterday in his weekly press conference.

Dropped passes, a blocked punt, missed tackles and missed assignments were just a few of the areas that Mackovic felt led to the Wildcats' first loss of the season.

"When we got up to Wisconsin, we did walk-throughs, and in my opinion we played the same way, like we were still going through a walk-through," he said.

Senior linebacker Lance Briggs was just as upset over the loss.

"There is too much potential at Arizona to play the way we played," Briggs said. "It kills me every time that I have to experience this."

Saturday's game against North Texas will be the first UA football game to not be televised since the Wildcats' 1997 match-up with Oregon State. This will be the only game of the year that won't be on national, regional or local TV.

Due to the fact that the game won't be televised, the start has been moved up to 6:07 p.m.

Usually playing a game on turf, as the Wildcats did Saturday, can lead to a lot of nagging injuries. However, the Wildcats escaped from Camp Randall in pretty good shape.

Both sophomore receiver Ricky Williams and senior fullback Joseph Willrodt suffered shoulder contusions in the Wisconsin game and their status is unclear.

Junior safety Clay Hardt injured his ankle last week in practice, but should not miss any action. Hardt and sophomore Vince Feula saw limited action in the Wisconsin game, but are expected to improve before Saturday against North Texas.

Junior cornerback Michael Jolivette injured his knee before the trip on Wednesday.

The same can't be said for senior offensive lineman Darren Safranek, junior defensive end Andre Torrey and freshman offensive lineman John Parada, who are all doubtful for the weekend's game.

For the second straight week the Wildcats lost the turnover battle, but unlike their match against Utah, they were unable to pull out a win against the Badgers.

The Badgers scored their first 14 points off two Arizona turnovers and the Wildcats found themselves in a deep hole early in the second quarter.

"Right now we are -.67 (in the turnover), which is where we finished last year and that is the way your record looks," Mackovic said. "You are not going to have a winning record (with negative turnovers)."

Mackovic stressed the importance of his team's ability to create turnovers.

"If we don't create turnovers, then eventually teams are going to make things happen," Mackovic said.

Redshirt freshman cornerback Darrell Brooks had a chance in the first half for an interception on a batted pass thrown by UW quarterback Brooks Bollinger.

The pass was thrown right to Arizona's Brooks, but he misjudged the ball in the air.

If Brooks had caught the ball, he would have had a clear path in front of him.

Even though the UA offense has averaged over 400 yards over their first three games, the team still struggles with putting the ball in the end zone.

The Wildcats have only been able to score two touchdowns while kicking six field goals.

"We get down there, but we can't get it (into the end zone)," said freshman running back Mike Bell. "We need to have the mentality that we need to score once we are in the red zone."
