Morning-after pill not abortion; widespread availability needed

I am writing to congratulate Kaila Wyman on her Sept. 26 article about the morning-after pill ("580 students receive morning-after pill"). Many students do not know that it is offered on campus and is an effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Articles such as Ms. Wyman's help educate ignorant students who do not know the purpose of the morning-after pill. [Read article]

UA excellence requires some new standards

Editor's Note: This is the second in a three-part editorial series on the new "Changing Directions" and "Focused Excellence" plans set forth by the Arizona Board of Regents and UA administration.

Despite the economic downturn Arizona has taken over recent years, President Peter Likins' new "Focused Excellence" plan gives the UA an opportunity to excel. The plan accurately states that achieving excellence is possible with tougher admissions standards, a tuition hike, investment in research, and some creative efforts to merge departments where possible or eliminating departments that fail to meet certain criteria. It's all really very simple when you think about it. Our beloved Arizona is in trouble and needs money. And so far, the only way that our state government has dealt with the problem is to cut university funding and talk about raising taxes on the already overburdened Arizona citizen. There's an obvious solution to this problem that is not getting any attention: genetically engineered child clones who smoke marijuana and provide the state with nearly free labor. [Read article]
