Vandalism

Police do not know who broke an exit gate at a campus parking garage early Monday morning, reports stated.

Police were driving by the Tyndall Avenue Garage, located at North Tyndall Avenue and East Fourth Street, when they noticed that an exit machine on the northeast side of the garage was vandalized.

The machine's wooden arm had been broken off and placed against the machine. Officers also noticed wooden splinters on the ground near the machine, reports stated.

Police believe that a person may have moved the arm manually by pushing outward but not by driving through it, reports stated.

The machine was able to raise the part of the arm that wasn't damaged, but the vandalism left the machine unable to block exiting traffic, reports stated.

Officers photographed the damage and reported it to Parking and Transportation Services.

There are no suspects or witnesses.

Suspicion of drug possession

A student was cited Monday afternoon after his room smelled like burnt marijuana, reports stated.

A resident assistant at the Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., escorted officers to the room where he had smelled an odor of burnt marijuana. When police arrived they also noticed a similar odor, reports stated.

Police knocked on the door and spoke to the 18-year-old resident.

He allowed police to come and said that his roommate had left the room earlier, reports stated.

Officers told the 18-year-old that they could smell burnt marijuana and asked if he had been smoking, reports stated.

"No, but I have smoked in the past," he told officers.

"I have marijuana and a pipe right there," he told officers after letting them search the room.

He handed police a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe, reports stated.

The man reached into a drawer and handed the pipe and bag to police. He also turned over a paper towel tube that was filled with dryer sheets.

He told police the contraption was used in an attempt to cover up the odor of burnt marijuana, reports stated.

He was cited and released on suspicion of unlawfully possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, reports stated.

The tube and pipe were taken into evidence at the University of Arizona Police Department and will be sent to the Department of Public Safety for testing to determine whether either object contains any drug residue, reports stated.

Trespassing on campus

Three juvenile males were warned about trespassing on the university Sunday after they admitted to tampering with a UA golf cart, reports stated.

A student noticed that a golf cart had been unplugged from an outlet and pushed away from the Comstock House, 1451 N. Warren Ave., reports stated.

He told police about the three males he had seen near the cart earlier, reports stated.

Police didn't see any apparent damage to the cart but did find three juveniles who matched the description nearby, reports stated.

The student identified the males as the same juveniles near the cart.

All of the males were between the ages of 14 and 16, and each male admitted to unplugging the cart.

Each male was warned about trespassing on campus, reports stated.

An employee from Facilities Management was able to start the cart and determined that the vehicle had not been damaged, reports stated.

Break-in

A UA building was broken into last weekend, reports stated.

An employee at Prince Farms, 3199 N. Freemont Ave., told police that he locked the door to the building at 6 p.m. on Friday. When he returned to the building, it had been broken into, reports stated.

Officers found three metal pipes near a door. They believe that the pipes were used to pry open some of the building's doors.

Police also noticed that some drawers were opened and that some items were left disheveled.

A padlock keychain was the only item missing.

Some employees believe the burglars were trying to find hypodermic needles and animal antibiotics, reports stated.

Police were unable to take any fingerprints.

There are no suspects or witnesses.
