Today last chance to register to vote in election on Nov. 5
The general election is just a month away, but the deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 5 election is today.
A recent letter from President Peter Likins urges everyone related with the university to get registered.
The top five state government posts ÷governor, secretary of state, state superintendent of public education, attorney general and treasurer ÷ will be determined in this election.
"Many of these officials will decide the budget and pass legislation that will directly impact the state's three universities," Likins' letter states.
"Please register if you have not done so already, learn all you can about the candidates, understand their views and vote on Nov. 5."
To register to vote, visit the ASUA offices in the Student Union Memorial Center any time between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., or go online to http://www.recorder.co.pima.az.us/regvote.html.
UA raises food and money for Community Food Bank drive
UA faculty, staff and students contributed 1,443 pounds of food and more than $1,485 to the Community Food Bank during a weeklong food drive organized by the Office of Community Relations that started Sept. 9.
The office wishes to thank employees and students all across campus, and the staff and faculty from the Arizona Health Sciences Center, the Alumni Office, biosciences, Chicano/Hispano Student Affairs, music, athletics, campus recreation and the Bursar's Office, who all worked to facilitate the drive, as did many other UA departments.
In addition, faculty and staff from the James E. Rogers College of Law contributed more $1,000 to the drive.
The drive was organized in response to a public appeal made by the local Community Food Bank in August.
Oasis Center schedules projects to increase violence awareness
The Oasis Center for Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence will be hosting activities to raise awareness of domestic violence issues during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The center will participate in the Clothesline Project on Oct. 14, at the UA Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This is a nationwide event that acknowledges the various types of intimate violence through messages and artwork.
Stop by to see the project and to create a shirt to hang on the clothesline. Materials are free.
