Former Hawkeye and current actor/sports anchor Tom Arnold pays visit to the Old Pueblo to reunite with ex-Iowa coach Lute Olson and get an early look at his preseason No. 1 UA basketball team

Somewhere between "True Lies" and the "Best Damn Sports Show Period," comedian Tom Arnold has gained the fanfare of your typical Hollywood celebrity.

But it hasn't been easy.

The man who was once known as Mr. Roseanne Barr received a standing ovation from a near-capacity crowd in McKale Center on Friday night as the Master of Ceremonies at "Midnight Madness." He also drew nearly 300 people for a taping of his current show at Gentle Ben's Brewing Co. [Read article]

photo Football Notes; Injuries continue to pile up

The list of wounded starters got a little bigger this week after senior free safety Jarvie Worcester broke his arm during the Washington game. Head coach John Mackovic said he expects Worcester will miss the rest of the season, but a slight chance exists that he might be able to come back for the last two games of the year.

True freshman Lamon Means could fill Worcester's spot, or starting strong safety Clay Hardt, who has been hurt himself, might move to his free safety position. [Read article]

photo Pitching continues to improve after weekend sweep

Maybe life without Jennie Finch and Jenny Gladding won't be so bad after all for the UA softball team.

Arizona breezed through the Arizona Fall Classic at Hillenbrand Stadium, finishing the series with a 6-0 record after outscoring opponents by a total of 58-5 during the weekend.

The three replacements for Finch, who ran out of eligibility, and Gladding, who transferred with two years remaining at UA, all had successful outings over the weekend. [Read article]

Volleyball Notes; Glass receives honors once again

Volleyball head coach Dave Rubio knew that he had an outstanding freshman class, but Kim Glass continues to impress every time she steps on the court.

This past weekend, Glass led the Wildcats with 53 kills and she has recorded at least 25 kills in each of the past four matches.

Glass's efforts were once again rewarded as she has been named the Pacific 10 Conference player of the week for the second time in her young career. [Read article]
