The Red Record
Like it or not, rock Īn' roll is in the midst of a revolution.
Led by bands like The White Stripes, rock is moving away from the excessive angry metal of the late Ī90s and back to the basics that make rock enjoyable.
With the release of The Red Record, Loudermilk has established themselves as equal partners in the revolution. They combine timeless lyrics from singer Davey Ingersoll with that pure-sounding rock music that you just don't hear often enough.
Record starts off on a strong note with "Estrogen Oxygen Aches the Teeth Again." The song, when read without musical accompaniment, feels like it would be at home being recited in a spoken word cafe, with candles lit and patrons sullenly clicking their fingers.
But fortunately for all those who wouldn't be caught dead in a place like that, the song rocks.
Often, when a band releases a song that has the quality of "Estrogen," listeners buy the album and end up being disappointed by the remaining product. There should be no such problems with Record. Loudermilk plays each song with passion, making every track sound like it could catch on as an anthem for the youth of the nation.
If The Red Record is any indication, rock Īn' roll is back and here to stay. Let's just hope that up-and-coming bands look at Loudermilk as an example of how to play it correctly.
