Volleyball seeks consistency during two-game road trip to Oregon schools

The Arizona women's volleyball team has been trying to come together and become a consistent, cohesive unit over the first half of the season.

Last Friday, the Wildcats upset the No. 4 and defending National Champion Stanford Cardinal and it seemed that they finally gained the consistency that head coach David Rubio has been looking for. [Read article]

photo New Cardinal offense struggling

On the surface, it doesn't appear that the head coaches of Stanford and Arizona ÷ Buddy Teevens and John Mackovic, respectively ÷ have much in common, nor do their programs.

But Stanford's situation this season bears a strong resemblance to that of Arizona last year.

Teevens, much like Mackovic last season, is in the midst of changing the way the Cardinal (1-4, 0-3 Pac-10) play ball, especially on offense. Much like Mackovic began doing with the Arizona offense last season, Teevens has brought with him the desire to open up the passing game to resemble the "fun and gun" offense that he headed under Steve Spurrier at Florida. New pool put on back burner

While adding a women's water polo team and building a new pool has been pushed back indefinitely, the athletic department instead is working on improving the facility of its current aquatic programs.

Originally, the addition of the team and the new pool was next on the list of priorities for auxiliary departments in the Fiscal-Year 2002-2005 Capital Improvement Plan forecast, but two projects were moved ahead of it because the Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall Renovations and the renovations to McKale Center have already started. The new pool was pushed back because adding a varsity women's water polo team has been moved back. [Read article]

Online Exclusive: Pac-10 Football Notes

Arizona State (5-2, 2-0)
Last week: Beat Oregon State 13-9
This week: No. 6 Oregon (6-0, 2-0)

For the first time this season, ASU won because of its defense, not its offense, against Oregon State last weekend. With time winding down and Oregon State pushing the defense into its own end zone, the Sun Devils held the line, forcing two sacks and holding the Beavers to a meaningless field goal. It capped off a game where the previously-torrid offense only racked up 241 total yards and was won solely on the Sun Devils' ability to rattle OSU quarterback Derek Anderson. [Read article]
