Graffiti

Racist graffiti was written in several bathrooms of a campus building Tuesday, reports stated.

At about 4:45 p.m., an employee reported he found the graffiti written in black permanent marker in men's restroom stalls on the second, third and fourth floors of the Harvill building, 1103 E. Second St.

The second floor restroom displayed the anarchy symbol, the letter "A" over a small circle, and the words, "ILL KILL U LATER," "KILL ME FIRST KLUTZ," and "DBD," reports stated.

The third floor restroom had a large swastika next to the words, "WHITE PRIDE," and "DIE NIGGERZ," reports stated. The fourth floor restroom displayed another anarchy symbol as well other profanity and more initials, reports stated.

The "D's" in the "DBD" had small number 3s written inside each letter, and the "B" had a small "x" in the top loop and a small "2" in the bottom loop, reports stated.

Police thought the graffiti was written rather poorly. Although it was written in phonetics, it was not consistent with the lettering or style of a tagger.

The total cost of the damage is unknown, reports stated.

Graffiti

A custodial employee reported he found more graffiti in a campus building Wednesday, reports stated.

At about 1:30 p.m., as the employee was checking the restrooms in the Social Sciences building, 1145 E. South Campus Dr., he discovered vandalism on the back of a door of a handicapped-accessible toilet stall in the men's restroom on the first floor. "KLUTZ," and "DBD," were written on the door in black permanent marker, reports stated.

The lettering was the same as what had found in the Harvill building the day before.

The employee said he felt he should report the incidents because of the racist nature of the vandalism. There are no suspects, reports stated.

Stolen golf cart

An employee reported a golf cart was stolen Tuesday from outside the Slonaker House, 1027 E. Second St., reports stated.

An employee told police the Slonaker House staff usually parks the golf cart in a secure area on the north side of the building.

But on Monday at about 3 p.m., there was a car parked in front of the area, blocking the entrance, so the employee parked the golf cart on the south side of the building. When staff members came to work at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, they discovered the cart was missing, reports stated.

All staff who have keys to the cart also reported no knowledge of its whereabouts.

The employee pointed out to police that all campus keys to "club carts" are universal.

There are no suspects, reports stated.

Stolen money

An employee who washes cages at the University Animal Care Facility, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., accused an animal technician of stealing $43 from his pants Wednesday, reports stated.

The cage washer told police that at about 8 a.m., he put his pants in an unlocked locker in the men's locker/changing room within the animal area of the facility.

The cage washer said he had $43 cash in his pants, and when he returned to the locker at 10:30 a.m. to get money for lunch, he found the money was missing.

The cage washer told police he suspected another employee, an animal technician at the facility, of stealing the money. He said he suspected him because he "talks tough," reports stated.

The cage washer then implied that the technician was engaged in suspicious or illegal activities away from work, and that there had been prior incidents of petty thefts in which the technician had been implicated.

The cage washer told police that the technician told him that he had not paid his rent or utilities and was being evicted from his apartment.

Police spoke with the two employees' immediate supervisor who said that although she had not heard of the technician being implicated in other thefts, she knew there had been problems between the men.

The supervisor concurred with the assessment of the technician's behavior, saying, "His language is full of teenager talk, gang talk, like rap videos," reports stated.

The supervisor added that the technician has "bad blood" with a number of the employees, none of whom were at work that day.

She pointed out to police that the locker room was accessible to both men and women.

Police plan to interview the animal technician about the incident, reports stated.
