It didn't come as much of a surprise that the Stanford women's basketball team was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Pacific 10 Conference yesterday at Pac-10 media day in San Jose, Calif.

After a 32-3 record and trip to the Sweet Sixteen, the Cardinal was the overwhelming media favorite to win the conference.

The Wildcats finished fifth in the voting, but head coach Joan Bonvicini has her eye much higher on the list.

"Respect is something that we want," said Bonvicini yesterday. "We want to be back in the (NCAA) Tournament. We're young and we have a demanding schedule, but this team wants to win. It's all about preparation and taking it a day at a time; you don't overlook anybody in the Pac-10."

Arizona will not be the only team eyeing Stanford at the top of the conference. Washington, Oregon and USC, along with Arizona, round out the top five. Defending conference tournament champion Arizona State is just six votes behind UA. The women's basketball team will hold its annual Red/Blue scrimmage on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in McKale Center.
