Indecent exposure
Police questioned a registered sex offender from California on Thursday, after a student reported a man exposed himself to her on the fourth floor of the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd., reports stated.
Police went to the library and spoke to the student on the first floor. She told officers she was on the fourth floor, when a man walked up to her with his zipper down and appeared to have one hand around his penis, reports stated.
The student described the man as in his 30s, with shaggy blonde hair, wearing a blue denim shirt and red shorts.
The student immediately walked down the stairs and contacted the University of Arizona Police Department.
Police walked up to the fourth floor and as an officer walked to the west side of the floor, he saw a man looking at him from around a corner. Police noticed the man was wearing a blue denim shirt, but was wearing blue jeans. As the officer walked in his direction, the man began to walk very quickly to the stairs. Police were able to catch up with the man on the first floor. The man seemed nervous and officers asked him to step outside.
The student, who remained on the first floor, said she could not positively identify the man as the one who had exposed himself to her, reports stated.
Police asked the man what he was doing in the library. He said he was looking at his e-mail on a computer on the first floor. Police asked what he was doing on the fourth floor, and the man said he went to use the restroom, because the restroom on the first floor was out of order. Police then asked why he did not use the restroom on the third floor.
"I don't know. I just went to the fourth floor," replied the man, reports stated.
The man said he was not a student, and was just visiting his father in town. A check on wants and warrants returned with a sexual offender flag out of California.
The man was carrying a pair of gray shorts with him that he told police he used to play basketball in.
The man was told he needed to have official business to be on campus, and was told he could leave the scene.
The student said she did not get a good look at the man's face and would not be able to help with a composite sketch.
No other suspects matching the man's description were found in the library, reports stated.
Possession of drugs, paraphernalia
A student was diverted to the Dean of Students on Saturday after he gave police 43.2 grams of marijuana in two plastic containers, five separate baggies, an electronic scale and a glass pipe, reports stated.
At about 7 p.m., a resident assistant at Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., reported a strong odor of burning marijuana was coming from a dorm room. Police went to the room, and one of the residents allowed police inside.
In plain view from the doorway, police saw a toilet paper roll stuffed with dryer sheets, known to be a makeshift smoking filter, on top of the air-conditioning unit.
Police could smell a strong odor of marijuana inside the room. Police told the student why they were there, and that it was obvious that someone had been smoking marijuana in the room.
Police advised the students of the diversion program, and their ability to participate in it if they cooperated.
One of the students then gave officers two plastic containers and five baggies, all together containing 43.2 grams of a green leafy substance, an electronic scale and a three inch glass pipe from the top of his dresser, reports stated.
The student said all of the narcotics and paraphernalia belonged to him. The items were placed into UAPD property as evidence. The student was diverted to the Dean of Students, reports stated.
